Physiotherapy

What is

Musculoskeletal
Physiotherapy?

Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapy helps restore movement and function when a person is affected by injury, illness, or disability. MSK Physiotherapy can help with general aches, and pains, sudden injuries, long-term medical conditions, and sporting injuries.

MSK Physiotherapy is a specialised outpatient form of physiotherapy and usually the best first contact point when muscle or joint injuries occur. This is because we place an emphasis on thorough assessment, a clear clinical impression of presentation, onward referral pathways if required and effective treatment of injuries that involve ligaments, tendons, muscles and joints. Some of the injuries may include; Sports injuries, joint pain, complex pain conditions such as arthritis, tendon pain, spinal pain, pre or post surgical procedures are just some examples of pathologies that musculoskeletal physiotherapy can help treat.

At SEMPER Physiotherapy based in Wilson, Derbyshire, we facilitate and maintain the health of people of all ages, and help clients to manage all aspects of pain and injury prevention. We aim to encourage development and aid recovery, enabling our clients to get back on with their daily tasks as soon as possible or attain specific sporting goals.

Sciatica

Do you suffer from unrelenting pain or discomfort caused by sciatica? Let the experienced professionals at SEMPER Physiotherapy help you find relief. If you're not familiar with sciatica, it is a broad term that refers to symptoms that travel anywhere along the path of the sciatic nerve. The nerve comes from your lower back and goes through your hips and buttocks and down the backs of your legs.

Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve is ‘pinched’ or ‘compressed’ in some way. When this happens, the following symptoms can occur:

– Radiating pain in your lower back/hips/buttock area
– Radiating pain down your legs
– Radiating pain into your feet
– Numbness down your legs
– Muscular weakness, typically in your legs
– Gait dysfunction
– Sensory changes in your legs and/or feet
– Hot, cold, tingling, or burning sensations in the legs

Pre and Post Operative Rehabilitation

Pre or Post Surgical Physiotherapy is crucial to a successful return back to normal function and to optimise the outcome of your procedure. With this in mind we always liaise with consultants both pre and post surgery to ensure that your quality of care is followed through. This also gives us an opportunity to discuss with the consultant any precautions they may have post-operatively or anything different that they potentially had done during procedure.

Pre surgery we look at exercises that could give you the best possible outcome post surgically, this could be by; improving mobility; increasing strength or helping improve proprioception (stability). Post operatively we look at gradually increasing mobility and then building the foundations of strength and setting targets throughout the rehab. With each phase of progression we will be taking objective markers throughout to establish whether we are on the right pathway and seeing improvements.

Whether you've had a knee, hip or shoulder replacement, a rotator cuff repair or knee ligament or meniscus repair we are here to ensure you make a full recovery. With access to a state of the art gym we are able to follow you through from acute post op to potential return to sport or activity.
